YEAR 3
Welcome back to the 2020 school year. It has been a lovely calm start to the year, all students have settled straight into school routines and have been completing a range of classroom activities and assessments.
We welcome Riam and Mohammad to Sirius College. It is wonderful to have you in our class and hope that you have a wonderful experience at our school.
Being in Year 3 will be a very exciting and busy time for the students. The red pockets (reading satchels) are a great way to communicate between home and school. They need to be brought to school every day and checked nightly for any notices. Our main focus for home learning will be reading every night (approx. 20-30 minutes). We encourage parents to not only listen to their child read the book and sign the reading log but also discuss the text. Some questions you might like to ask your child to spark a conversation could be:
In Literacy, students are learning how to write a narrative, common nouns, proper nouns and how to use punctuation correctly.
In Mathematics, the main focus will be on place value, addition mental strategies, telling times in minutes, fractions on number lines and 2D shapes.
In History, students are learning about the history of Australia, about the indigenous people, national days around the world and celebrations around the world.
The students have been assigned a project that they have to complete at home. The parents are advised to help their kids with the project but remember that it is a great learning opportunity for the students so let them shine.
Homework is due every Friday and the students are expected to complete their online homework on ReadingEggs and Mathletics on a weekly basis.
This term we have NO HAT, NO PLAY policy. So students should have their hats with them every day.
Please send 2 boxes of tissue boxes to school with your child for use in the classroom for the year.
